Only Child || Elevated Basics
There's nothing more exciting to me than when I find a brand whose entire collection makes me think "I can honestly see each and every piece from this brand in my closet". It's a dangerously beautiful feeling and it's one of the first things I thought when I first browsed Only Child's collection.
That was a few seasons ago, and still, after several product launches, I'm as obsessed as ever.
Anyone who has seen a sneak peek into my closet knows that I'm a "basic girl". (For lack of a better term — I can't believe I just wrote that.) I don't own many statement pieces or items that are difficult to pair together. I fall hard for clothes that are versatile enough to wear a million ways — helping me feel put together whether I'm spending the day at home, traveling with my family, going to the grocery store, or meeting up with friends. The Alta top in beige linen was exactly the top this "basic girl" needed for my spring wardrobe to feel complete.
To make matters even more enticing, Only Child is a one woman show. Haley, the founder/designer/owner/seamstress/wonder woman behind the brand makes each and every piece in her studio in Oakland, CA using durable, natural fabrics like linen and tencel.
As a frustrated customer, Haley decided to start her own line of basics with a twist, focusing on versatility and durability. Each collection draws on timeless styles from past decades with a modern twist (like the high/low hem on the Alta top) to help it flow seamlessly into your existing wardrobe.
Linen is quickly becoming a staple in my Spring/Summer wardrobe. It's lightweight yet durable, with a gorgeous texture that pairs well with any other material. I chose to experiment and pair the Alta top with my white linen pants (that are from several years ago before my slow fashion days) and my Summit necklace from Wakened Apparel, and I may have found a new favorite outfit.
Although I only wore it around the house (with tiny toddler feet following me around, as evidenced by the toes I couldn't crop out of the photos), I can see the linen-on-linen combo being perfect for a date night, a long walk on the beach, a coffee brunch, or any occasion ever, really.
I've also worn the top with jeans and my Fortress of Inca booties, layered over my Sotela shift dress, and with leggings. I've only had the top for (barely) a few weeks, and already I've managed to wear it enough times to warrant it an essential.
