His + Her's Style || Thread Co.
Do you remember earlier this week when I chatted about the struggles of living with a non-minimalist? I've encountered so many women who are becoming more passionate about slow living only to be discouraged when their husband isn't as on board as they hoped — especially when it comes to their closet. For many guys, simplifying and, thereby, conscious shopping seems strange and inaccessible, since the vast majority of fashion brands for men are far from ethically-minded.
Luckily, the deeper I dive into the slow fashion community, the more I realize that isn't exactly true.
It turns out that there are many amazing brands creating ethical, sustainable clothing for both men and women — check out my List for proof. So, ladies, next time you hear that he doesn't have any good options for shopping ethically or building a capsule wardrobe, you just send him to this post ;)
Men's wardrobes rely heavily on basics and, as it turns out, most women's do too, which is why Thread Co., a Nashville based slow fashion brand, is literally perfect for building your conscious closet — and your partner's.
Specializing in creating "basically the perfect basics", Thread Co. designs pieces that are truly staples for both men's and women's closets. Katie and Gracie, the friends behind the brand, wondered why we pay to have special items custom made to fit us, like suits and dresses, but don't think the same way about our basics — the pieces we actually wear much more frequently. So, they founded Thread Co., a brand that puts an equal weight on basics as other brands do on their "specialty" pieces that you may only wear once or twice.
One of their newest designs that I'm particularly excited about (so much so that I added it to my Spring capsule wardrobe) is their custom tee dress. You can choose the length, color, and sleeve style of your dress, tailoring it to perfectly fit your body and tastes. I went with stripes (no surprise there, eh?) and a muscle tank sleeve, since I lacked a tank dress and loved the idea of being able to layer over and under it with different sleeve lengths. I've even worn it tied up as a top with jeans. It's so versatile.
They have a similar option for the men too. AJ is wearing their custom T-shirt in black (because he's classy). There's the option to give the tee a raw hem for a more edgy look, cuffed sleeves (which I opted for in AJ's tee,) a relaxed or more fitted cut, and whether or not they want to add a pocket.
We are both addicted to how soft the fabrics in both our pieces are. His tee quite literally goes with everything in his closet, and my dress fit seamlessly in with my Spring capsule (that I plan to share on May 1st, so stay tuned!) We wore our Thread Co. pieces out on an excursion with the girls last week (although I realized after the fact that we didn't even get a photo together....oops!)
I was amazed by how "myself" I felt wearing the tee shirt dress with a simple pair of booties and a necklace. I'm not one for big statement outfits, or bold colors, so the neutral, classic vibe of this dress has become a new favorite for me.
