If there’s one thing most new moms are overwhelmed with when they start putting together their registries, it’s STUFF. Not the fact that they’re bringing new life into the world, or labor, or finding the perfect school…so many moms are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of “things” it takes to raise a human. Or, more accurately, the amount of “things” we think we need to raise humans.
As your kids get older, the complaint is the same…why do we need so many toys? Why buy something they’re only going to outgrow mere months later?
I’ve shared about my own journey into living with less before but after having Aria (her first year and a half of life has been in a 37’ RV!), I’m more convinced than ever that you just don’t need that much to have a baby. The same holds true for bigger kids. And that realization has made the realities of ethical shopping so much easier.
When you’re buying less, you have the option to slow down and look for things that are better made, higher quality, and longer lasting. My friends at Good Buy Gear know just how hard it is for parents to bridge the gap between quality and affordability, so they’ve created a platform that allows easier access to both.
Good Buy Gear so sweetly sent the girls a new “Here Fishy Fishy” game (aimed at Aria’s age, but the big girls had fun teaching her how to snag the fish), but this piece barely scratches the surface of all that GBG offers.
Sell
Similar to a consignment store, Good Buy Gear allows parents local to Denver and Dallas (or further if you want to make the drive to one of their locations) to drop off their unwanted, gently-used baby gear/clothes/toys/accessories. GBG will also safely pick up your “declutter pile” for you if you live within range.
From there, GBG will quality check each item to make sure it’s on par with their standards and something that moms will actually want, list the item to their vast online marketplace, and let parents from all over the country shop from their selection of incredibly priced, like-new goodies.
When your items sell, you get paid.
Their system is genius because not only does it help moms declutter their own unused items, but it keeps these same items from the landfill (where the vast majority of barely-used baby items go) and into the homes of real mamas who need them just as much as you did. Circular economy at its best, if you ask me.
Buy
In addition to selling your unwanted baby goodies, you can shop from GBG like any other online store. They have the option for expecting moms to create registries, shop by category (their product inventory is seriously impressive), and even have your purchases delivered straight to your doorstep if you live in Denver or Dallas. If you don’t, your pieces will ship normally.
Along with their upcycled products from the homes of real mamas, Good Buy Gear partners with big box retailers to resell their unsold goods that would typically end up in landfill. To date, the company has saved over 24,000 items from landfill!
My Picks
My favorite thing about GBG is that it eliminates the expectation that so many new moms carry with them that they won’t be able to afford the best for their baby. Good Buy Gear carries everything you need/want for your child: from strollers to car seats and carriers to toys and diapering supplies — literally everything you need to have a baby (which, remember, isn’t nearly as much as you think).
They also have goodies for bigger kids too — bikes, outside gear, games, all aimed at providing your family with new or “open box” products that fill a void in your home. Here are a few favorites I picked from their website, but click here to browse for yourself because the options are truly limitless:
Aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, and friends, don’t leave either because GBG is an incredible resource for making gift giving more affordable (and eco-friendly). In fact, I’ve got my eye on a pair of gently used roller skates for miss Evelyn.
To make the deal even more sweet, GBG has kindly offered Simply, Liv readers 15% off their purchases with the code SimplyLiv — share it with family and friends if you create a registry or are just looking for some gifts for you and your babies.
I’m excited to have a local option for reselling/upcycling items that are typically quite an investment for most new parents. You can bet that I’ll be taking our things to them once Aria outgrows them — it’s a relief to know that they’ll be resold to families like mine who need them, instead of sitting in a thrift store or worse, in a landfill. For now, Evie and Mara will have a blast teaching Aria how to play Here Fishy Fishy.
Don’t forget, SimplyLiv for 15% off!
