PonyBabe || Effortless "Lifewear"

PonyBabe || Effortless "Lifewear"

Watching new brands come to life is one of the most exciting things about being involved in the ethical fashion movement. I first discovered PonyBabe at the very launch of their Kickstarter campaign. I marveled as Rachel, the designer, owner, and one-woman show behind the brand, built her first collection, the "24-hour outfit," using the donations of backers, in women-owned factories in Brooklyn, NY. I saw her brand come to life, release that first collection, and lay out plans for the next one.

You can read Rachel's interview on SL&Co from November of last year. And looking back on it now, it's amazing to see how her dreams for PonyBabe have truly come to life.

After reading about her fabrics, seeing the behind the scenes stories of how each piece is made in the factory that she monitors closely, I'm so excited to be able to "meet" her clothes in real life.

Rachel sent me one of her racer back tank tops (which my closet surprisingly lacked,) and one of her black multi-wear wraps. And not surprisingly, the pieces are more than living up to my expectations.

I romped around the mountains last week in both pieces and loved the coziness of the wrap for bundling up on chilly evenings and the versatility of the tank for easy layering and accessorizing.

My favorite way to wear the wrap is simply draped over my shoulders, slightly tucked under my arms. It has the look of a cardigan, but the versatility of a shawl — not too heavy, but warm enough to be considered an "extra layer" for when the weather is a bit unpredictable.

The wrap lives up to its name because I couldn't stop brainstorming other ways to wear it.

  • Nursing cover
  • Baby sling for young babies
  • Car seat cover (yes, my mama brain went crazy with this one)
  • Skirt (styled below)
  • Strapless dress
  • Belted top
  • Head wrap

When I got home from our trip, I wore the wrap as a skirt and shot a few imprompteau photos to show just how versatile the wrap is.

  •  Pale Grey Tank Top: 55% organic cotton, 45% bamboo, $89
  • Multi-use Black Wrap: 55% organic cotton, 45% bamboo, $69

And to sweeten the deal, Rachel offers $25 off your first purchase when you sign up for her mailing list (which you can do at the bottom of her website).

PonyBabe is perfect for new moms, yoga enthusiasts, work from home-ers, or anyone who sees the value in a beautifully made article of lounge-wear.

Her first collection is stunning and I can't wait to see what's in store for this truly ethical, slow fashion brand.
